Blogging

I have come to a decision regarding my blog. Since I am teaching high school confirmation this year, most of my free time has been spent researching and preparing lessons, as opposed to blogging. (High schoolers are very smart!) I have to be honest with myself as to where I am investing my time, and [...]

Happy Thanksgiving

A blessed and happy thanksgiving to all! We gathered at one of our northern houses and had the wonderful surprise of being joined by our Salesian brothers from the surrounding area. It is rumored that a photo may make it to the Salesian News Agency (ANS), so if it does, I will post a link. [...]

Province History Videos

Some of our Sisters created a  video about the history of the FMA in the US and Canada (it is in 2 parts). We watched this video in our community about a month ago, and it was used at the General Chapter in Rome to share with the capitulars (the Sisters that attended from each [...]

About Me:
I am a believer in meeting people, especially young people, where they are at. That means not rejecting or condemning their culture, their music, their clothing, beliefs, or non-beliefs. We have to be level. We have to be real. If we want to have an impact on the lives of young people we have to be authentic, and as Don Bosco said, "Love what the young love and they will love what you love." Salesians are not preachers. We are teachers, but not only in the physical classroom; life is our school. Love is our rule. Reason our tool. Religion, fool - its in the heart, not the words. Preach always, but speak only when you must. What my dossier? I'm Salesian; its my DNA.
------------------>
I love being a Salesian. I love the charism. I love working with the young.
I guess it all boils down to what Cagliero said:
Monk or no monk... I'm staying with Don Bosco.
How did you hear of the Salesians?
I read a book about Don Bosco when I was a teenager and I was deeply moved by his confidence in the goodness of young people. I needed his message of optimism and faith in the young. Knowing Don Bosco and learning more about his outlook changed my life and I can honestly say that I would not be here today without him. After that, I got to know some SDBs and it has been one adventure after another!
What do you think God is calling you to?
Religious Life as a Salesian Sister (currently a candidate - 1st yr)... and I am already a Salesian Cooperator, but who knows what God is planning. I'm open.

Happy Birthday Brittany! May the Lord bless you with evermore wisdom and courage on your vocation journey.

We just got back from a retreat with the FMA Novices. Fr. John Grinsell led the retreat. We had some faith-sharing on Sunday's scripture. It was a great experience. How are you doing?

Hi Brittany, hope that the Christmas Season is bringing you many joys and blessings. How is the weather in California? Probably not particularly Christmasy! As we enter the New Year, may you continue to experience the presence of the Lord in your life and to grow in your love for Him. Judy

Hi Brittany! How are you? It's been a while. What's new over there? I was wonder if the Sisters have any discernment retreats anytime soon. It would be nice to put it on the Events widgets. Also, I have a young lady from my youth group who is interested in the religious life and I would like to introduce her to the Salesian life.

Hi Brittany, how's it going? Are you taking any interesting classes right now? I see that your Postulant ceremony is coming up very soon. I will surely be wth you in spirit if I live through this move. It is proving to be more frazzling than I anticipated. This too shall pass! Hope that you are well and growing in grace daily.

Hi Brittany,

I have just spent nearly two hours perusing your blog. Pretty awesome! Reading about you and the things you have done through the summer, about getting ready for the new aspirants, readying the novitiate, your own forthcoming postulancy, I got a bit teary. Brittany, I pray that you will always have this spirit, this dedication to the young, this delight in Salesian life. I watched Fr. Jim's clip on the spirit of Don Bosco. It was just wonderful. Of course every talk that Fr. Jim gives is tremendous. He is very gifted and I personally could listen to him for an hour or more. Bless me Brittany, for I have sinned! I envy you in your vocation. Even as I write this, I am tearing up. I can't put my thoughts into this site. Do you have a direct e-mail? Mine is Judykallmeyer819@juno.com. If you could e-mail me with your address, I would write back and fill you in a little more. Hope the weather in California is as gorgeous as it is here in NY today. I would love it if we had this kind of weather all year round. The temp is in the 70s and no humidity. Perfect for housework and I have done a bit today. Peace and His love to you!
