Well, I'm Irish and worked there for five years. I left in 08 to take time for discernment and went to help a russian charity working with street kids. While there, I met the Franciscans, somehow got in contact with the Salesians, travelled to Moscow, visited heir home for children in Ukraine and ended up in their pre-novitiate. Now I'm in Italy preparing for the novitiate in September.
How did you hear of the Salesians?
I met a few salesians from Congo and read a book called 40 dreams of Don Bosco...
What do you think God is calling you to?
I hope to work for the disadvantaged youth in eastern europe, especially the street kids and orphaned. They are most in need as they are completely exposed to the world and can so easily end up lost to life on the streets, HIV and many other dangers. Don Bosco was really blessed to be able to help so many youth. He surrendered completely to God and was a loyal and loving friend to the youth. He brought them consolation in their life. This isn't just consolation for them but for Our Lord also. He loved those children enough to call Don Bosco to them. Don Bosco and Domenico Savio are great inspiration for me. My place is among the poor and abandoned and now I'm just trying to discern and follow God's call as honestly as I can.

Happy Birthday, Noel! What a blessing you have to share your birthday with the Feast of All Saints! May the Saints intercede and lead you to holiness. :-)
I met Fr. Jim Mulloy a few weeks ago and he asked me say "Hi" to you (he said met you while on the Salesian heritage tour in Turin). How are you doing? How is pre-novitiate? I am working camp here in Port Chester, NY and preparing for First Profession this August 16. Things are moving pretty fast. Please keep me in your prayers.

Hey..Noel! Good to hear from again. I'm also glad to hear you survived the holidays, etc. About the comment comparing Don Bosco to Fr. Flannagan, you would need to read the story of "Boys Town." His name was Fr. Edward J. Flannagan and he did the same thing Don Bosco did, beginning what we know as "Boys Town" Nebraska in 1917. He had the same trials and joys that Don Bosco had but just in another time and place. I'm writing a book for fun for the children we Salesians minister to. My ideas for this are from the story "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." You would need to look up the old movie with Gene Tierny and Rex Harrison to know what it's about. Only in this case, the ghost isn't a salty sea captain, it's a priest, St. John Bosco. One day when I have a little more time and if you like, I'll e-mail you what I've done so far, which is the first six chapters. Everybody who has read what I've done so far, is getting a big kick out of it. I think so will you. God Bless! Gotta Run! Till Later! Your Friend, John McKevett
Glad to hear that your Christmas was great. Congratulations on finishing the first part of your prenovitiate. Sorry about not writing sooner. I only have computer access at work. I hope to change this this year. Another name for Don Bosco could be "The Father Flannagan" of his time and place. I'm sure you can imagine why, can't you? Ha! Ha! God Bless! I'm being paged so I gotta run! Til Later! God Bless! John
